TDI Advanced Nitrox
The full range of nitrox, from 21% to pure oxygen. It's where technical diving starts.
Recreational nitrox stops at 40% oxygen. Advanced Nitrox takes you all the way to 100%. You'll learn to pick the best mix for a dive, carry a second cylinder, analyse and label your own gas, and manage oxygen exposure properly.
It's a no-decompression course, but it's also the first step towards Decompression Procedures, and it's a prerequisite for the Poseidon decompression and Helitrox courses. Most people take it together with Decompression Procedures.
- Minimum age
- 18 (15 with parental consent)
- You'll need
- Nitrox certification and 25 logged dives
- Open water dives
- 4, totalling at least 100 minutes
- Maximum depth
- 40 m
- Gases
- EAN21 to 100% oxygen
- Theory
- At least 6 hours of classroom and briefings

Prerequisites
- Minimum age 18, or 15 with parental consent (18 if combined with Decompression Procedures).
- TDI Nitrox Diver or equivalent. PADI Enriched Air counts, and so does RAID Nitrox.
- Proof of 25 logged open water dives.
What you'll learn
- Physiology of oxygen and nitrogen, and why high-oxygen mixes need respect
- Choosing the best mix for a planned depth, and working out maximum operating depths
- Tracking oxygen exposure (CNS and OTU) over a dive and across a day
- Carrying, deploying and switching to a second cylinder
- Analysing, labelling and handling oxygen-rich gas and equipment
- Planning gas for the dive, with reserves
What you'll need
- Your own BCD, regulator, exposure suit and computer or bottom timer
- A cylinder and regulator cleaned and labelled for high-oxygen mixes (ask me before you buy anything)
- Line cutter
- An oxygen analyser. I can supply one
Where it leads
- Decompression Procedures: Decompression Procedures, the natural next step
- Poseidon Se7en Air Diluent CCR: Poseidon Se7en Air Diluent, if a rebreather is where you're heading
Why learn it with me
I've been teaching technical courses since 2013. You'll learn here in small groups, and 1:1 if you want it, so the course runs at your pace and not at the pace of the slowest student in a class of eight.
Course limits and prerequisites follow TDI Standards & Procedures, Part 2 (v0126), section 7. Standards change, so I'll confirm them when you book.
Interested?
Tell me your certifications and roughly how many dives you've logged, and I'll confirm you're ready.
