TDI · Poseidon rebreather
TDI Air Diluent CCR: Poseidon Se7en
Your first rebreather course. Quiet, warm, bubble-free diving to 30 m on the Poseidon Se7en.
A closed-circuit rebreather recycles your breath: it removes the carbon dioxide, adds oxygen as you use it, and keeps you on the best mix for your depth at every point in the dive. That means longer no-decompression times, a fraction of the gas, warm moist breathing, and no bubbles. Fish come to you.
The Poseidon Se7en (and the MkVI Discovery before it) is a fully electronic rebreather built to be approachable. It runs its own automated pre-dive checks and does much of the work for you. It's still a rebreather, though, and the training is what makes it safe. This course teaches you to build it, check it, dive it and bail out from it, to 30 m, with no decompression.
- Minimum age
- 18
- You'll need
- Nitrox certification and 20 logged dives
- Duration
- At least 5 days
- In-water time
- At least 60 min in confined water, then 420 min over 7 or more open water dives
- Maximum depth
- 30 m, no decompression
- Ratio
- At most 3 students per instructor

Prerequisites
- Minimum age 18.
- TDI Nitrox Diver or equivalent (PADI Enriched Air or RAID Nitrox). Nitrox can be combined with this course.
- Proof of 20 logged open water dives.
What you'll learn
- How a CCR works: the loop, the scrubber, oxygen sensors and setpoints
- Building, checking and packing the Poseidon. Its automated checks, and what they don't check
- Pre-breathing, and staying alert to hypoxia, hyperoxia and hypercapnia
- Buoyancy on a rebreather. It's different, and it's the first thing to master
- Handset and alarm management, and what each warning means
- Bailing out to open circuit, and when to do it without hesitating
- Post-dive care, scrubber management and maintenance (2-hour workshop)
What you'll need
- A Poseidon Se7en or MkVI Discovery. Units can be hired for the course, but I strongly recommend owning your own from the start: you'll learn your own unit, and you'll keep diving it afterwards
- Bailout cylinder and regulator suitable for the planned dive
- Exposure suit, fins, mask, SMB and reel, cutting tool
Where it leads
- Poseidon Se7en Air Diluent Decompression CCR: Air Diluent Decompression: add planned decompression, to 40 m
- Poseidon Se7en Helitrox CCR (45 m): Helitrox: add helium, to 45 m
Why learn it with me
I've taught on the Poseidon since 2014, and I'm one of very few instructors in Western Australia who is current on it. If you're thinking about a Poseidon, talk to me before you buy. I can tell you honestly whether it suits the diving you want to do.
Course limits and prerequisites follow TDI Standards & Procedures, Part 2 (v0126), section 30. Standards change, so I'll confirm them when you book.
